Here are just a few exhibits and shows going on during the month of June. Most are in the mid-Atlantic area, and near to where I live, though several are events further afield which I wish I could attend. I will update the list and re-post it as I become aware of other exhibits of interest. Scroll to bottom for previews of upcoming months.

Oh thank you for posting what is of interest to those of us who paint!
what about the west coast, too? ;)
Thanks, Julia- don't worry, I've already thought about another show that I want to add in Arizona, so eventually, I'll probably list all the shows I wish I could attend, whether on not it is realistically possible for me to get to them all. Europe next!
Matt
NICE WEBSIT!..
Matt,
Thank you for this list! You have given us some excellent suggestions. They will certainly help to keep me busy.
Since it is not on your list, I wanted to make certain you are aware of this show, in your general vicinity: "J.C. Leyendecker: America's 'Other' Illustrator," at the Hudson River Museum in Yonkers, NY.

Keep up the great blogging.

Just so viewers of this blog know, the Wyeth show at the Montclair Art Museum is amazing. I work in the art school attached to the museum and was at the opening last Saturday... beautiful. Needless to say I'm going to be spending all my free time upstairs in the museum :) I suggest anyone whose in the tri-state area make the journey to Montclair, its truly a great show. I'll be going to the Leyendecker show at some point soon. Sounds enticing. And thanks Matt for this awesome blog. Its one of my daily "go-to" blogs.
Julian-
Thank you for letting us know about the quality of the Wyeth show. It sounds great.
Hopefully, I'll get back into the swing of posting more frequently soon, so that your daily visits won't be wasted! : )
Best-
Matt
Tremendous post! Thank you!
This is a great site. Thank you for posting.
Just saw the "Masters' Show of Landscapes" at the Beardsley Gallery in CT. Awesome show with some fantastic works. This gallery is fairly new, but one to keep an eye on, they already represent a bunch of top level artists.
They are having a reception on Sep 12th for the show, I guess Burt Silverman and Glen Harrington will be there, and they are hoping for some of the other artists as well.
Great post! There is such beautiful art on view!
Hi Matt, I'm glad you posted an image from Rose Frantzen's upcoming exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery in D.C.. She's a fantastic painter who deserves some national attention. She's got a DVD which shows her working methods for the portraits, available from her website and well worth the money. Her site: www.oldcityhallgallery.com .
And I love your blog, in case I haven't told you this before. Thanks so much for doing this.
I'm in school right now so I don't have much time to get out and see these shows in other states, but I did manage to hit the Met last Wednesday and see the Vermeer show. Absolutely gorgeous. There's just something about that milkmaid. It's brighter and more alive than his other paintings-- not that any of them are NOT alive. Definitely worth a visit. Plus you can just wander the met for about a week and still not get around to seeing everything.
Don't forget the Coors Western Art Show, I am on my way there tomorrow morning.
Thanks for reminding me of Allen True's show in Denver.
Mathew, I´ve posted in the blog of the students of my department an article that might interest you. I´ve been to the museum of the ancient Imperial Fine Arts Academy of Rio de Janeiro and took more than a 100 photos of the works displayed there. They´re mostly academies, but, anyway, great to see.
The link is the following: http://artesplasticasunb.blogspot.com/2010/01/o-museu-d-joao-vi-da-eba-ufrj.html
Great blog, I come by everyweek! Marcelo from Brazil
http://www.jcacciolagallery.com/exhibition.shtml Looks like there's some new Alex Kanevsky in a group show at Cacciola in NYC.
great information! My spring and summer plans are taking shape. Thank you.
What a great list. Thanks for keeping us informed.
There is also a fantastic Burt Silverman retrospective at the Sherwin Miller Museum of Jewish Art in Tulsa, OK. I got to see it last week and there are at least 30 pieces in this show! Ends September 1 - Website here: http://www.jewishmuseum.net/
For anyone in the Philadelphia area this weekend, be sure to check out the US Artists show at the Penna Academy of the Fine Arts: (http://www.pafa.org/usartists)
A lot of great galleries represented in one place and an amazing opportunity to check out a wide variety of artwork.
Thanks for the blog, Matt; I read it daily!
Hi Matt
A really exciting selection of shows, but being based here in Ireland I won't get to see a lot of them.
One show I did see and can heartily recommend is the Gabriel Metsu that is coming to Amsterdam.
It's on at the National Gallery of Ireland at the moment and I really loved it.
Metsu had a stunning technique that makes you think of Vermeer or Ter Borch, but he also had a great interest in story telling that is perhaps more akin to Norman Rockwell.
Well worth seeing.
I went to the sargent show in NYC. It was great! Good to see the real paintings. great to see studies that I've never seen or even knew existed. almost feels like a different painter then I know from my various books. made me feel like I wanted to get home and paint. interesting article written by the gallery owner, in which he discusses a lovely letter written from JSS to Monet.
Someone should manufacture little painter action figures with movable arms and legs that I can play with like i did with Luke Darth and Ben.
Thank you! so many links to so many wonderful paintings. I was familiar with Bischoffs name, but the work is stunning. Will look for more online.
If you're in England pop into the prb drawing exhibit:
http://www.bmag.org.uk/events?id=1038
you can order the catalogue online, but if you can get there then the Romantics exhibit at Tate Britain is worth a look:
http://www.tate.org.uk/britain/exhibitions/romantics/default.shtm
Thank you! Thank you!
Great Post Mr. Innis, Robert Henri is slowly becoming one of my favorite painters.
fairly interesting exhibit:
Fitchburg Art Museum Welcomes Exhibit Celebrating the Graphic Novel Phenomenon
Triumphant mixed-media exhibit on loan from Normal Rockwell Museum making its only New England appearance at Fitchburg Art Museum from Sept. 25-Jan. 1

Very nice blog!! Thanks for sharing!!
Matt,
You may want to add this as well. Checked it out last week and really enjoyed it. A must see if anyone is in the NC area. Decent permanent collection as well.

Thanks for the list...Underpaintings is my all time favorite blog!
How fabulous that you include the Comic Book Art of Alex Ross among all the other announcements! Some wouldn't (recognize) include comic book art as art.
BTW... I'm a bit confused, why are some of the comments showing dates in 2009, 2010, even 2011 before the post?
@ David Rather than put up an entirely new post each time a show ends or a new one begins, I have edited the original post, and just updated the time stamp. The comments can be traced back to the very first time the "What's on View" segment was added to the blog as a regular feature.
Got it, thank you!
Just a clarification, The Booth Museum is in GA, not CA. I was kicking myself for not knowing of this museum before! I looked it up, and now my kicking was for nought.
@NYSTUDIOS
Mea culpa! Thanks for catching that - I made the correction.
Very creative and astonishing pictures!
There are some great shows coming up, I really wish I could see the Dürer.
That watercolor of the bristle(y) hare, in both attitude and fur, has always been one of my favorites. I would love to see it in real life.
These works are really 10 inspiration and 90% perspiration :-)
Thanks so much for the wonderful post Matthew! If I may add to the upcoming show. I know Jeremy Mann is currently having a show at the John pence Gallery. Thanks again for these and all of your informative posts. Your blog is the first that I visit every morning.
who is the artist you posted for the allentown fantasy exhibit? i followed the link, but couldn't even find the image you posted. thanks for the info!
@Johnny Hart - That painting is by Thomas Blackshear, a wonderful illustrator. Several years ago there was a successful line of sculptures done based on his designs, and he's done some very popular Christian images. There is an official site for his products now, but I don't know if he has a personal
website.http://www.blackshearonline.com/
Can you please let me know who the artist is for the the painting with the woman holding a pistol? it's the image you used for the "Frederick R. Weisman Museum of Art (CA): Illustrating Modern Life:
The Golden Age of American Illustration from the Kelly Collection" exhibit... I'd really appreciate it, thanks! Great blog btw!
Hey Tan Man- The painting is "$2,000 Reward," by the Dean of Illustration, Dean Cornwell.
Thanks very possible, please visit my humble blog

Just to let you and your readers know, there's a Paolo Veronese show at the Ringling Museum of Art in Sarasota. I'm hoping I can arrange a visit with my parents and go see that one... Thanks for the great list.
Matthew
