Douglas McGarren Flack was intending to become a medical doctor, when he took a drawing class to fill out his schedule, and found his life unquestionably changed. His interest in art had already been piqued by a visit to the 1999 John Singer Sargent exhibit at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., but this drawing class truly ignited his love. He changed majors, and in 2002, picked up a paintbrush. In 2005, he graduated Brigham Young University with a Bachelor's of Fine Art in Illustration, and three years later, graduated from the University of Utah with a Masters of Fine Art in Painting and Drawing. Flack now divides his time between painting full-time and teaching at local universities, but don't be surprised to occasionally see a stethoscope hanging around his neck - he still somehow finds the time to give back to the community as a paramedic in Salt Lake City.
