| Marvin Mattelson, Portrait of Sydney, 20 X 16 in., oil on linen |
For those of you in the Atlanta area, there are just a few spots left in Marvin Mattelson's Oil Portrait Mastery Workshop sponsored by Binders Art Supplies.
The purpose of this workshop is to expand your ability to paint more life-like and illusionistic oil portraits. This workshop is about transforming your mindset, not about learning a few new technical tricks. Michaelangelo said, "A painter paints with his brains not with his hands." After this workshop you will never paint or think about painting in the same way. You will gain insight into the strategic thinking and techniques that the great master artists have utilized for centuries and learn how to incorporate these methods into your own personal style. Working from a live model you'll learn what to look for to achieve your artistic goals. Every aspect of this approach will be fully demonstrated and augmented by lectures.
If you are unable to commit to the full workshop, but would still like to gain from Mattelson's experience, the artist's lecture series is open to the public. Topics include Color Theory, Mixing the Flesh Palette, Modeling Form in Paint, Promotion and Marketing, and "Everything I Know About Painting I Learned at the Met" - observations on the painting technique with examples of works from the Metropolitan Museum of Art's permanent collection. Ticket prices are $25 for each of the five presentations, and registration is required.
The Art School at Binders is located at 3330 Piedmont Road, Suite 18, in Atlanta, Georgia. For more information, check their website, or call 404.237.6331.
